A MAN has left people mind blown after revealing the purpose of the little black dots on car windscreens.

Zack took to Instagram to share a Reel explanation of what the dots are there for, as he began: "Have you ever wondered what those little black dots are on your windshield? 

"Well, if you look closely, you’ll notice that they lead to a black band that goes all the way around.

"This is called a frit and it’s there to protect the glue that holds your windshield in place.

"But what about the dots? Well, because this band is black, it heats up fast, which can cause damage to your windshield.

"So they added dots to gradually even out the temperature."

People were quick to comment on the video, with one writing: "Oh my goood! I had that question on my mind for like 10 years and now it's answered by a random reel, thank youuuu!!"

"I had this question in my mind since being a child. Thank you!" another praised.

As a third commented: "I always wondered what they but now I know thanks."

"Thank you sir...I've always wondered what those things were..." someone else wrote.

While another comment read: "Awesome fact my man. Great job."

"I thought it was to help defrost... I was lied to as a kid," someone else sighed.

But others weren't as impressed with the fact, with one writing: "As someone who works on cars every day, i never wondered nor cared about it.

"And now that i know about their purpose. I can continue to not care."

"That's a hell of a mystery no one thought was a mystery and didn't even really need solving but damn if it didn't just get solved!" another said.

In addition to helping the glass adhesive stick to the windshield, the black band "blocks the sun’s ultraviolet rays from melting the adhesive underneath the band", according to the experts at Autoglaze.

And the reason it's so important for the temperature to be evenly distributed is not just to prevent the windscreen from being damaged, but also to lessen optical distortion.

"This happens when the frit band (the solid black one) heats up much faster than the windscreen’s glass, creating an optical distortion that makes either straight lines look curved or bowed inwards toward the centre," the Autoglaze pros said.

"Those 'gradually sinking' black dots help lessen this phenomenon by dissipating the heat and spreading it out evenly."
