More articles by Jan Gathmann →The Canyon Aeroad 2022 is the first model update for the Koblenz-based aero road bike.In addition to new equipment variants, there are also new designs.The frameset, which debuted just a year and a half ago, received detailed improvements.Here is the information and the prices.Since the model change at Canyon Aeroad in October 2020, the aero racing bike from the Koblenz-based direct supplier has caused quite a stir.There were a lot of positive headlines in the form of victories, but also starting problems with abrasion on the seat post and the handlebar problem on bike superstar Mathieu van der Poel.According to Canyon, the problems should be solved with the new Aeroad.According to Canyon, the handlebars have been reinforced.The comfortable aero carbon seat post sits in a new plain bearing with a seal over the seat tube (which was also improved on the predecessor).As usual, the Canyon Aeroad 2022 is available in three variants: the top model Aeroad CFR, which Van der Poel also rides on, the Aeroad CF SLX, which still has the integrated, width-adjustable Aero cockpit, and the Aeroad CF for beginners SL.The latter comes without integrated trains and lines on the cockpit.The entry-level price for the Canyon Aero series has increased by €600 to €3,999.The most important facts:Price from €3,999 |Bike market: Buy Canyon AeroadAnyone who likes more eye-catching colors on aero road bikes will find what they are looking for in the Canyon Aeroad 2022.The new "Hot Salsa" color scheme combines a glossy purple with bright red on the CF SLX version.But the aero racer will also be available gray on gray in the 2022 model year – in the CF SL variant.For the first time, the Aeroad 2022 comes with DT Swiss ARC Aero carbon wheels across the entire model range.Different rim heights depending on the frame size should ensure optimal driving characteristics in windy conditions, even for lighter riders.All models in the small sizes have 50 mm high rims at the front (3XS to S).The 62 mm high carbon rims rotate at the rear and front from size M.On the entry-level model Aeroad CF SL, the two smallest frame sizes are also equipped with 650b wheels for optimal ergonomics.For the models with a “7” in the designation, Canyon DT Swiss uses ARC 1600 wheels, which are a bit heavier and have hubs from the 350 series.As usual, the CF SLX models have the DT Swiss ARC 1400 Dicut wheels.And at CFR level, the super-light DT Swiss ARC 1100 Dicut are used.All Aeroad are also fitted with 25mm tires at the front and 28mm tires at the rear, from CF SLX level the tires are also tubeless ready.However, the new equipment packages are the main innovation on the Canyon Aeroad 2022. Canyon has streamlined the model range.So there is only one version of the Aeroad CF SL that comes with the entry-level frameset.It has the same aero frame tested in the GST wind tunnel as all Aeroad.However, as usual, it comes without the new aero cockpit with the integrated lines and cables, which is also adjustable in width and height, similar to a classic shaft stem.The WMN models are also no longer listed in the 2022 program - they only differ marginally in terms of the saddle, the gear ratio and the available frame sizes anyway.The new entry-level model is the Aeroad CF SL 8 with mechanical Shimano Ultegra 2×11 for € 3,999.At 7.8 kg, it is also slightly lighter than the higher-end CF SLX models with SRAM eTap AXS 2×12 drivetrains.Also new is the entry-level model at the CF SLX level, the Aeroad CF SLX 7.
