SR987 Hi-Performance Premium Aquarium Silicone Sealant
SR987 Aquarium Adhesive & Sealant is a high performance, one component, acid-curing silicone sealant which is specifically designed for the construction of aquariums. It easily extrudes and cures at ambient temperature by reaction with moisture in the air to form a durable, flexible silicone rubber seal.
FEATURES & BENEFITS:
• Environmentally friendly, not to hurt fish eggs
• Ready to use
• Fast curing speed
• No slumping
• Flexible at low (-40 °C) and high temperatures (+150 °C)
• Excellent mechanical properties
• long service life
APPLICATIONS:
• SR987 Aquarium Adhesive & Sealant exhibits excellent adhesion to glass and is specifically designed for the construction of aquariums.
QUALITY ASSURANCE:
• This product has passed ISO9001/ISO14001 management system certification, and strictly in accordance with ISO9001 quality system requirements for production and control of product quality.
COLOUR:
• Clear, White, Black
PACKAGING INFORMATION:
• SR987 Aquarium Adhesive & Sealant is supplied in 300 ml disposable plastic cartridges.
USABLE LIFE AND STORAGE:
• When stored at or below 27°C in the original unopened containers, it has a usable life of 12 months from the date of production.
LIMITATIONS:
• Do not use for curtain wall glazing and in the manufacture of Insulated Glass (IG) Units.
• Not recommended for use on materials where the cure by-product (acetic acid vapor) may cause corrosion, discoloration or where the sealant may affect their appearance (e.g. galvanized iron, copper, brass, zinc-coated steel, concrete, cement, brick, limestone, marble and similar highly porous stone finishes).
• Not recommended for direct contact on the reflective coatings on mirrors.
• Not recommended for use on polycarbonate plastic sheeting. Suitability for use on other types of plastic should be tested prior to application.
• Good adhesion is normally not obtained on PTFE, polyethylene, polypropylene and related materials.
• Cured sealant surface can not be painted, as paint will not adhere well to sealant.
• Should not be applied to materials that bleed plasticisers or solvents or release by-products that may inhibit its cure, affect adhesion or discolor the sealant (eg. bituminous based adhesives and coatings).
• Ensure bond thickness is at least 1mm. Temperature should be between +15 °C and +40 °C.
• Can not be used in totally confined spaces, because the sealant requires atmospheric moisture for cure.
• This product is neither tested nor represented as suitable for medical or pharmaceutical uses.
APPLICABLE INSTRUCTIONS:
• Aquarium/fish tank size: suitable for glass length greater than 120cm, glass thickness greater than 1.5cm
Ultra Clear Glass fish tank: 45cm, 60cm, 80 cm
HOW TO USE:
• Substrate preparation
Substrate surfaces must be completely clean, dry and sound. Completely remove any loose debris and old sealant.
• Masking
Masking tape can be used in the area adjacent to the joint to ensure a neat sealant line, preventing the surrounding surplus sealant from contaminating the substrate surface.
• Applying Sealant
Cut tip off the cartridge. Cut nozzle at 45° angle to the desired shape and size. Screw nozzle onto cartridge. Place cartridge in caulking gun. Air-operated or hand-operated caulking guns can be used.
• Tooling
Tool joint if necessary, and remove masking tape. Tool immediately after sealant is applied and before a skin begins to form. Dry tool and do not use soap or water as tooling aids. Tooling should be completed in one continuous stroke to provide a smooth even finish and to ensure the sealant wets the sides of the joint. A tool with a convex profile is recommended. Remove masking tape immediately after tooling and before the sealant skins. Do not touch the surface of the sealant within the 48 hours.
• Cure Time
After skin formation, cure continues inward from the surface. In 24 hours (at room temperature and 50% relative humidity) SR987 Aquarium Adhesive & Sealant will cure to a depth of about 3 mm. Very deep sections, especially when access to atmospheric moisture is restricted will take longer to cure completely. Cure time is extended at lower humidity levels. Before handling and packaging bonded components, users are advised to wait a sufficiently long time to ensure that the integrity of the adhesion is not affected. This will depend on many factors and should be determined by the user for each specific application.
PRECAUTIONS:
• Please read the safety data sheet of this product prior to use
• Avoid contact with eyes before curing. If contact with eyes, rinse with plenty of water and consult a doctor
• Pay attention to ventilation in the working areas
• Uncured products should avoid contact with children
